“Before I Die” wall

“Before I Die” is a global participatory public art project. It invites people to stop a minute to write a message on a chalk wall and it results in reflections on life, death and personal aspirations. Photos capture the messages before they are erased and the mobile exhibit is moved to a new location. This is a natural tie-in for UF Health as National Healthcare Decisions Day takes place April 16-22. (UF Health will also have a wall at 352Creates “Create in Community” event at Depot Park on March 25. Other locations hosting a wall include the Alachua County Senior Recreation Center (March 14-April 22), Haven Hospice (starting March 15) and the UF J. Wayne Reitz Union (March 26-31).

Wellness Waymaking with Melissa Montilla

Wellness is a practice, a process that is dynamic and must be reevaluated frequently. Wellness fluctuates, undulates, and spins in response to our context, our responsibilities and our needs. This is why when we approach it as a linear path the “goal” of wellness can become self-defeating, and often unrealistic. The Wellness Waymaking is a supportive resource that accommodates wellness in all of its variations through a playful process of acknowledgment, movement, inquiry and mapping. Join in and discover how to facilitate your own personal way to wellness in an evening of movement, breath, meditation, and play.

Grove Street Neighborhood Mural

Presented by Iryna Kanishcheva with artists Liza Cholodkova and Steffen Vala

The project starts its 9th artwork! Two local artists will do a groundbreaking collaboration combining art and technologies. Liza Cholodkova will use her invention, Botsy BeDrawn. It is a machine designed to take a digital image of any type and transfer the image onto a wall. Blending creativity of the 21st-century Maker movement and street art culture, Steffen Vala’s design for the mural at Warrington’s furniture repair shop will reflect that cross-road with the historic hand tools that the neighborhood’s artisans use in their workshops, all in an effort to represent the energetic culture of Gainesville as a whole.

Community members are invited to the courtyard to show their creativity!

Time: March 24th, all day!
